The boundaries of this panchayat are the Eramam Kuttur and Peringome Vayakkara Grama Panchayats to the east, Karivellur Peralam Grama Panchayat to the west, Payyanur Municipality to the south, and Kayyoor Cheemeni Grama Panchayat to the north. The Kankol Alappadamba Grama Panchayat was formed in 1936. It is a legend that the village of Kankol Alappadamba is connected to the Dakshayaga mentioned in mythology. It is believed that the place name Kankol Alappadamba originated from this yaga led by Kapila Maharshi. According to the legend, the temple chosen by Kapila Maharshi for the yaga, Kapilan Kovil, later became Kankol; the place where rice was cooked and served became Ootithada; the northern wall of the yagashala became Vadasheri; the area with the dining hall became Undakkoval Kundayankovval; the place where cows were housed and a canopy was erected became Alakkada; the place where ashes from the yaga were disposed of became Karinkuzhi; the place where baskets were kept for picking flowers became Kotrakachal; the place where eminent personalities stayed became Mahadilmathil; the place where marks were made became Kuruveyl; the plot where banyan trees were planted became Alappadamba; and the place where water was drunk to quench thirst became Etukudukka, thus forming the place names. Kankol Alappadamba is a naturally scenic area with hills and valleys. As the name suggests, this panchayat was formed by combining the two villages of Kankol and Alappadamba. This land is blessed with rare botanical diversity. The extremely rare flat Rudraksha is found here.
